Getting Started with Your New Plant
Congratulations on your new green companion! Here's everything you need to help your plant thrive from day one.
Unboxing Your Plant
-
Open immediately - Your plant has been in a dark box and needs light
-
Check the soil moisture - It may be dry from transit
-
Inspect for damage - Contact us within 48 hours if you notice any issues
-
Let it acclimate - Place it in its new home and give it 1-2 weeks to adjust before repotting
The Essentials
Light Most indoor plants prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch leaves, while too little light causes slow growth and yellowing. When in doubt, an east-facing window is usually perfect.
Water The #1 killer of houseplants is overwatering. Always check the soil first: • Stick your finger 1-2 inches into the soil • If it feels dry, it's time to water • If it's still moist, wait a few days • Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom, then empty the saucer
Humidity Many tropical plants love humidity. If your home is dry (especially in winter), mist leaves occasionally, use a pebble tray, or group plants together to create a microclimate.
Temperature Most indoor plants prefer 65-75°F (18-24°C). Keep them away from drafts, air conditioning vents, and heating sources.
Common Issues & Solutions
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow leaves | Overwatering | Let soil dry out, check drainage |
| Brown leaf tips | Low humidity or fluoride in water | Increase humidity, use filtered water |
| Drooping leaves | Underwatering or overwatering | Check soil moisture, adjust watering |
| Leggy growth | Insufficient light | Move to brighter location |
| Pests | Spider mites, mealybugs, or fungus gnats | Wipe leaves, use insecticidal soap |
Seasonal Care
Spring & Summer: Growing season! Fertilize monthly, water more frequently, and watch for new growth.
Fall & Winter: Dormant period. Reduce watering, stop fertilizing, and ensure plants get adequate light as days shorten.
